Light and Sound Space

Dimensions: Sculptures roughly 12’ x 12”, light reflections roughly 48’ x 60”

Materials: Mirrored Plexiglas, matte black gesso, frosted Plexiglas, LED lights, speakers, binaural beat audio

Light and Sound Space is a multimedia installation consisting of three painted mirrored Plexiglas LED sculptures, projecting geometric light forms on the walls

In addition, there are five surround sound speakers installed in the room, playing binaural beats. The sculptures alone fit into an aesthetic that I had been using for previous sculptures, the geometric light patterns on the walls serves almost as paintings and windows into dimensions of space that the viewer cannot occupy. The binaural beats playing on the speakers altered the sense of hearing of the viewers as they moved through the space as an attempt to alter their state of awareness. This was more a larger “sketch” of how to create a space using sound, light and sculptures, as well as playing with ways to mold an experience for the viewer as they walked through.

Light and Sound Space was inspired by my own personal, transcendental mystical experience that I had prior to attending MIAD. I wanted to recreate and share my mystical experience with others through my art, which was challenging to say the least.
