Reflection Stones are part of a series of sculptures. Forms were carved out of foam, cast in wax and altered, then silicone molds were made to create the final product which was cast in CFL reactive glass and resin. Of the two CFL reactive glass stones, one appears baby blue when exposed to indoor lighting and changes to magenta when it is exposed to sunlight. The other larger stone appears olive green when exposed to indoor lighting and changes to a ruby red when exposed to sunlight.
The series of Reflection Stones are a piece where I questioned the meaning behind the action of when a person finds a stone that they find attractive. The way in which a person will hold a stone and find it special or significant to them. These stones, with their large size, bright colors and color shifting quality were meant to be spectacular and exaggerated to bring attention to ways we might find more typical mundane rocks alluring. The research for this piece led me to learn more about symbolic and totemic objects and their uses throughout human history.
