Scrying Bowl in its original final presentation had small LED lights installed along in the inner edge of the bowl. The opening of the bowl was made in a way so that there was no visible edge. That edge, paired with the white LED light and the white painted, sanded and curved space of the inner portion of the vessel created an optical illusion of either close flatness or infinite depth. Inspiration of this method of framing the color and light was from learning about James Turrell’s “Sky Spaces”.
Scrying bowls in the past were either bowls filled with oil or water and used as a form of divination similar to the crystal ball. The user of the scrying bowl would stare into the reflection and enter a non-ordinary or altered state of consciousness to gain information about whatever topic they were seeking. This was my own take on a contemporary scrying bowl and led me to learn more about different divination practices.
